Excerpt from Director’s note:
In our rendition of Oliver, we are traveling forward in time to the wreckage of post-World War III London. The US and England joined forces in an attempt to stave off annihilation. Here, we find Oliver Twist, the boy made famous by Charles Dickens’ 1838 novel of the same name. Just as he would have in the mid-19th century, Oliver struggles to survive in a world that doesn’t want him, a world seemingly devoid of love and humanity. While the year has changed, the story maintains the novel’s clear focus on the human tendency for exclusion, oppression, and social division dictated by resources. The mid-1800s resemble my vision of a post-apocalyptic world in that both worlds are heavy with poverty, chronic illness, constant fear, and the inclination to cling to anyone who shows even the merest kindness.
